Hospitality in Baiyun Mountain
2100 mq | Baiyun China | 2024
Designed as a multifunctional hospitality gallery, the project merges a boutique B&B with spaces for wellness, relaxation, and cultural exchange.
Nestled in the mountains, it offers a calm, nature-immersed retreat with a contemporary reinterpretation of Asian mountain hospitality.
The atmosphere is one of quiet beauty, a modern space infused with ethnic, immersive experiences.
The main challenge was to create a smooth and relaxing atmosphere within a large, modern, square architectural layout, while keeping the poetic essence of Asian aesthetics.
The design needed to merge indoor and outdoor experiences, accommodate standard rooms of different sizes, and balance the program of private and public areas. On the ground floor, reception, café, dining, kitchen, and a social hall had to be integrated in a way that supports both intimate stays and communal gatherings.
Challenge
Natural materials set the tone: reclaimed wood, white Chinese-style beige tiles, and imperfect wall finishes soften the geometry of the building and create a harmonious, gallery-like atmosphere.
The entrance opens into a vast welcoming space, leading to a café that transforms into a bar in the evening, with indoor seating that frames the surrounding mountain scenery.
The social hall is anchored by a sunken sofa area and a gallery wall, designed to host exhibitions and invite local artists to share their work. Together, these interventions merge hospitality with cultural experience, offering a place where guests can both retreat and connect.
